Stern Tube Oil
Stern Tube Oil System
The stern tube transfers energy from the engine to the propeller. AFT seals, FWD seals, and bearings are critical components that are especially vulnerable to seawater ingress and wear due to contamination in the lubrication systems.
Challenge
The propeller seals and bearings are at risk of being damaged if the oil is not kept free from seawater, particles and oxidation residues. Water ingress happens through propeller seals, due to damage wear and movement of the shaft. Seawater causes corrosion and increases wear rate on bearing and seals. Sand and silt can cause abrasion in vessels operating in shallow waters. For some Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL), water contamination can even result in acids in the oil, and replacing all oil in the system is very costly. Worst case, you lose manoeuvrability of the tanker and risk losing charter.
Benefits, installing CJC® Oil Filters
-
Reduce risk of off-hire
-
Optimise efficiency of the container vessel
-
Reduce risk of stern tube repairs, unplanned breakdowns and emergency dockings
-
Protect your investment
-
Reduced maintenance oil replacement costs
When you install a CJC® Oil Filter solution on your stern tube system, you get an oil filter with excellent water, dirt and oxidation removal capacities, and the highest dirt holding capacity. You no longer risk having to replace expensive oil and handle large amounts of waste oil. You save costs and increase reliability.
Technically, CJC® is known for keeping oil dry, clean, and without oxidation residues, which is documented over many years and in several stern tube installations. CJC® Oil Filter solutions are installed with many shipowners worldwide.
When you choose CJC® Oil Filters, you ensure a long lifetime of the stern tube seals, bearings and oil. You reduce maintenance and you avoid unplanned breakdowns. You can even monitor the condition of your system using the Oil Contamination Monitor.
